Original Framed Paintings

ORIGINAL WRENSDAY WRENS SERIES

This series of original watercolour paintings was inspired by my love of Australia’s Superb Fairy-wrens. I spent many hours trying to capture the antics of these fast moving little birds with my camera. Naturally like some other “birders” I started posting my efforts on Facebook. It was here that discovered
“Wrensday” when each week people would post their pictures of wrens from around Australia. These eight watercolour paintings are from some of my favourite Wrensday posts. I hope you enjoy these delightful little birds as much as I enjoyed painting them.

SHADOWBOX BIRDS

As I became more comfortable with watercolours I wanted somehow to include aspects of the bird’s natural environment and behaviour. The thing that came to mind was a shadow box. This inspiration led me to try a number of different paintings and to try and place the bird in a shadow box with some information about their character or behaviour and some bits and pieces from their landscape. In someways the ideas I had in mind reminded me of my fascination with scientific shadow box collections or the famous assemblage art of the 1950s and 60s.
I have created a post with a video about my Shadow Box Birds where you can learn more about my fascination with this project.
